Ways to thrive during clinical rotations

One of the milestones medical students look forward to is getting out of the classroom and interacting with patients during clinical rotations. Also known as clerkships, clinical rotations give students an opportunity to make a good first impression on program directors, attendings, and hospital staff-which can lead to a successful residency placement.

In 2015, it was found that about 43% of students enrolled in a residency program where they had done an audition clerkship. Published in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (JAOA), the study examined the relationship between residency placement and clerkship site enrollment at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and also found that 5% of students enrolled in a residency program at a hospital where they had rotated.

Ready to shine during clinical rotations? Look for a reputed institute that offers clinical clerkship training and experience in the USA. Furthermore, there are different ways that can help you thrive during clinical rotations. Below mentioned are some of them.

Ask questions: There are times when students are afraid or feel shy to ask their attendees why they have opted for a particular medicine or treatment for a patient, but it is essential to do. Asking questions in a respectful and professional way without trying to challenge your preceptor’s expertise is a way to show that you are engaged and paying attention.

Adopt the attitude that no job is too small: By taking on tasks that might seem mundane, such as drawing blood, you will demonstrate that you are someone to depend on. This can open doors to more exciting tasks. Your preceptor will be more likely to ask you to participate in more opportunities if they know you are willing to help.

These are some of the tips that can help you thrive during clinical rotations. Make sure you follow them. Remember, enroll yourself in an institute that offers the best clinical clerkship training and experience in the USA.
