Do you want to pursue a career in the medical field? Well, you must have searched for a lot of options available these days to get into this field. And passing the USMLE Step 1 exam is one such way of practicing medicine in the country.

What is USMLE and how is it beneficial for you?

USMLE stands for United States Medical Licensure Exam also known as “the boards”. It is a standardized test that assesses a medical student’s ability to apply basic science fundamentals to the practice of medicine. The entire exam has three steps 1, 2 & 3. It is administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).

How you can take advantage of USMLE Step 1?
  • Once you ace the exam, you are eligible to apply for a residency seat in HAMAD medical corporation which is in Qatar (requirement is steps 1 &2).
  • You can apply for the license exam in Saudi Arab if you have studied for Step 2 CK. If you’ve gotten good marks, you can apply for a Residency At King Fahad Medical College. You will get paid in these residencies.
  • Moreover, with certification, you can give any license exams of the Middle East like Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, as all of them require you to pass their license exam which follows the exact pattern of USMLE step 2 CK. You are allowed to work as a GP in their country provided that you should have 2 years of experience post-internship.
  • Upon passing the two USMLE steps, you can get a USA work visa and can get a job in the medical field. And on completion of your step 3 exam, you can apply for residency.
  • If you pass all the STEPS in USMLE and still don’t get a seat in residency in the USA then you can easily apply for practicing licenses in the middle east and you can get that without any exam.
The test is a bit tricky and if you want to prepare for it in the best possible manner, you must get yourself enrolled in a reputed college offering USMLE Step 1 test preparation.
